Worker Housing at Runda: What Our Team's Living Conditions Look Like

Worker Housing at Runda: What Our Team's Living Conditions Look Like

When buyers audit a factory, they usually focus on production equipment, quality control, and certifications. Worker housing rarely comes up in the first conversation.

But it matters more than most buyers realize. In a manufacturing region like Mudanjiang, where winter temperatures drop well below freezing, living conditions directly affect whether skilled workers stay with a factory. A stable, experienced team produces consistent products. A team that turns over every few months does not.

This article is a straightforward look at how our workers live, and why we invest in it.

What the Dormitories Include

Our worker dormitories are located on the factory site, within walking distance of the production floor. Each room accommodates a small number of workers, with the following conditions:

- Proper heating for winter, with indoor temperatures maintained throughout the cold season
- Ventilation and natural lighting in each room
- Clean bathroom and shower facilities
- Laundry areas
- Common space for meals and rest
- Regular cleaning and maintenance

These are not luxury accommodations. They are clean, warm, and functional. That is what matters when someone is working a full shift on a production line.

Why We Invest in Worker Housing

There are three practical reasons, none of them sentimental.

1. Retention
Experienced workers produce better products. Someone who has worked on our polishing lines for three years knows how to check surface finish by hand. Replacing that person takes time and training. Good housing is one of the reasons people stay.

2. Consistency
Our buyers order the same specifications repeatedly and expect the same result every time. That kind of consistency comes from a stable team, not from constant recruitment.

3. Compliance
For European buyers in particular, social compliance is part of the sourcing decision. BSCI and similar frameworks assess working conditions, including housing where applicable. We hold BSCI certification, and we take those standards seriously.

What Buyers Should Ask Any Supplier

If you are auditing a wooden cutlery supplier in China, worker housing is worth asking about directly. The useful questions are:

- Do workers live on-site or off-site?
- Is housing heated in winter?
- How many workers share a room?
- How long does the average worker stay with the factory?

The answers tell you something about production stability that equipment lists do not.

Final Note

We are not presenting our dormitories as a selling point in themselves. They are simply part of running a factory that people are willing to stay at.
